Romania scrambles F-16 amid Russian attacks / Collage 24 Kanal
On the night of July 2, Russia carried out another drone attack on Ukrainian regions located near the border with Romania. Because of this, Bucharest scrambled F-16 fighters.
Two F-16 aircraft were scrambled at 23:15 to monitor the airspace after the Russian attack on Ukraine was recorded, 24 Kanal reported, citing the Romanian Defense Ministry.
Why Romania Attracted Combat Aviation
According to official data, Russian drones attacked Ukrainian territories near the Romanian border. Therefore, the National Military Command Center of Romania took urgent measures: in particular, it informed the emergency services and launched the RO-Alert warning system.
To protect the local population and monitor possible threats, the authorities declared an alert in Tulcea County. The Defense Ministry stated that all actions were carried out in coordination with Alliance partners.
Romania's Ministry of National Defense has strongly condemned Russia's attacks on Ukrainian civilian targets, saying in a statement that such actions are “unjustified” and contrary to international law.
Let us recall that Romania had previously passed a law allowing the military to shoot down drones that violate its airspace. This decision was made due to repeated cases of Russian drones flying in during shelling of the southern Odessa region.
