The country's Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that this concerns checkpoints on the border with Hungary and Bulgaria.
In Romania, 30 checkpoints on its borders will cease to function from January 1, 2025. We are talking about the abolition of border controls at entry/exit to other EU countries due to receiving the status of a full member of the Schengen area.
Digi24 writes about this.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania reported that 30 checkpoints on the border with Bulgaria and Hungary will be closed on the first day of the new year, but random document checks can still be carried out.
The corresponding decision, according to which Romania and Bulgaria were admitted to the Schengen area, was made by the EU Council on December 12.
Recall that after the decision on inclusion in the Schengen area comes into force, control on internal air and sea routes will be abolished in Romania and Bulgaria borders.
