The United States, during the signing of a contract with the Russian company S7 for the sale of Sea Launch, banned the use of it to compete with the American company SpaceX Elon Musk. This was announced on Monday, June 7, by the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin during a speech at parliamentary hearings in the State Duma of Russia.
– There were specific severe restrictions when signing a contract for the transfer of two Sea Launch vessels to a Russian company. The limitations were that we cannot use them in competition with Elon Musk. At the same time, government lawyers are on the side of a private company, – said the head of the Russian state corporation.
Dmitry Rogozin also recalled that the American side “pulled out all the equipment” from Sea Launch, and promised to restore the floating spaceport.
Let us remind you that Sea Launch consists of a floating launch platform Odyssey and a command vessel. The program was in effect until 2014, later the launch activities of the cosmodrome were suspended, and in 2016 the S7 group of companies became the owner of the rocket and space complex.
