Rogozin: there are no means of saving the Earth from destructive asteroids yet

To date, there are no means capable of protecting the Earth from a collision with a meteorite. This was told by the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin.

Commenting on the issue of detecting large and small bodies capable of threatening the safety of the Earth, the head of Roskosmos noted that the Russian and American space monitoring systems see everything except dangerous encounters from the Sun. According to him, to close this direction, it is necessary to place telescopes not on the Earth, but on the Moon.

“Second topic. Okay, we found out – something is flying to Earth. And maybe the same story as with dinosaurs. To date, there are no means capable of saving the Earth, ”the head of Roscosmos said in an interview with Gazeta.ru.

Rogozin also noted that it was with such a proposal that Roscosmos turned to NASA. As he clarified, the state corporation proposed to create a system capable of promptly moving towards this body, and by means of action to ensure either its destruction to small particles that burn when they enter the planet's atmosphere, or try to influence its orbit so that the body flew past the Earth.

“I think this is a very important project. But Roscosmos itself will not be able to handle such things, ”he said.

As the website kp.ru wrote, Rogozin also said that Russia has survived many wars and is ready to repel any strike, including in space, noting that it is in outer space that wars may start in the future.
