Russian cosmonauts will have no problems with space suits for spacewalk, said the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin. Earlier, Sergei Pozdnyakov, General Director-General Designer of the Zvezda Research and Production Enterprise, said that the warranty period for the Orlan-ISS spacesuits at the International Space Station is coming to an end, and there is no contract for the production of new ones yet. Therefore, according to him, astronauts may lose the opportunity to go into outer space.
“Zvezda is not included in the perimeter of Roskosmos, but, as you might guess, astronauts will not remain without spacesuits and will not go out into outer space in their underpants,” Rogozin wrote on Twitter in response to a post from another user.
The head of Roscosmos also asked “not to replicate speculation and incorrect public statements of the contractor.”
Now only Zvezda is engaged in the production of spacesuits for Russian cosmonauts. In July, Dmitry Rogozin said that Roscosmos plans to create an alternative production facility. According to him, competition will make it possible to respond more quickly to requests from astronauts.
