Dmitry Rogozin, general director of Roscosmos, said he did not support the idea of extending the operation of the International Space Station (ISS) until 2030. So he reacted to the reports of the Russian media on the press release of “Roscosmos” about his negotiations with the head of NASA Bill Nelson. The head of the Russian state corporation noted that “plans for the future” will be possible after the lifting of sanctions against Russian enterprises in the space industry.

“This is not true. We did not confirm anything of the kind during the conversation. On the contrary, they talked about the inadmissibility of sanctions against TsNIIMASH, which includes the MCC, and the Progress RCC, a manufacturer of Soyuz-2 space rockets. First, we need to remove these sanctions, and then make plans for the future, ”Mr. Rogozin wrote in Telegram.

The desire of NASA to extend the work of the ISS was announced by the press service of Roscosmos. “The head of NASA positively assessed the bilateral interaction in space, which began with the docking in the framework of the Soyuz-Apollo program in 1975, and also announced his intention to extend the operation of the ISS with the provision of the necessary state funding until 2030. Supporting the head of NASA, Dmitry Rogozin noted that the Russian side fully fulfilled its obligations to maintain the operation of the ISS, ”the Russian state corporation said in a statement.

In April, it was reported about Russia's plans to leave the ISS, due to the fact that it is “seriously outdated.” At the same time, the flight director of the Russian segment of the station, Vladimir Soloviev, reported that the ISS will be operated until 2030 or even longer.

About Russia's plans in the space industry – in Dmitry Rogozin's interview with Kommersant FM “Space is not a mindless rivalry.”
