Three-time Olympic champion, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina reacted to the offensive banner of a Finnish fan, whose poster with the words “Russia has been overthrown” was captured by the camera during a live broadcast of the match for third place at the World Ice Hockey Championship among youth teams. RIA Novosti reports.
According to the athlete, the tournament organizers and representatives of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) should give an assessment of the fan's behavior. “Naked people run out on the field, dogs run. But these are the things that shouldn't confuse athletes. And if we are talking about sports journalism, then this nonsense should not be of interest, ”Rodnina added.
Earlier it became known that during the broadcast of the match for the third place at the 2021 World Cup, one of the fans of the Finnish national team showed a poster insulting the Russians. On it was written the colloquial Finnish word “Russya”, which is often used in a disparaging manner in relation to Russian speakers.
The Russian youth ice hockey team lost to the Finnish team in the match for third place at the 2021 World Championship (World Cup). The meeting, held in Edmonton, Canada, ended with a score of 4: 1.
