Robots can start to reproduce
In the future, robots are likely to master the ability to reproduce. The corresponding technologies are beginning to appear now, according to The Guardian.
A team of researchers from the UK and the Netherlands recently demonstrated fully automated technology that allows robots to create offspring. The artificial genetic code of such models changes over time to better adapt to the environment. Scientists have already compared this to artificial evolution.
Child robots are created by mixing the digital “DNA” of the two parent robots on a computer. The 3D printer fabricates the robot's body, then the robotic arm attaches the “brain” with the software inherited from the parents, along with any new components such as sensors, wheels or joints.
Experts noted that new generations emerge from the combination of the most successful traits of a virtual “mother” and a physical “father”. Technology can function without human intervention. But people have the ability to intervene and correct the evolutionary process – as when breeding new breeds of animals.
Futurologists emphasized that such experiments should be strictly controlled. It is possible that in the process of evolution, robots will change so much that they will become dangerous to humans.
