Takara Tomy has developed the Ami-chan robot, which is supposed to replace the granddaughter of lonely elderly people. The device can talk to them and sing a song. And it is most likely cheaper than a real grandson.
The robot is able to recognize the owner thanks to the built-in cameras. He is also trained in over 1,600 Japanese words, but he can be taught to others as well, such as the names of grandparents. Ami-chan can blink or close his eyes: in this way, the robot simulates a dream.
When Ami-chan is awake, she can sing 40 different children's songs and recite poems. The robot is also able to pronounce tongue twisters. It is believed that they can help its owner train the brain.
Ami-chan costs $ 250. The robot operates on batteries, so sometimes you have to spend money on them.
