Moscow. July 16. INTERFAX.RU – Roskomnadzor confirmed that the website of the human rights association “Team 29” was blocked on July 16 on the basis of the decision of the Prosecutor General's Office, as it acted within the framework of an organization undesirable in Russia, RKN told Interfax.
“The site functioned as part of the activities of the international nongovernmental organization Spolecnost Svobody Informace, ZS, included by the Ministry of Justice of Russia in the list of foreign and international nongovernmental organizations whose activities are recognized as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation,” the department explained.
Team 29 reported on Friday that its website was blocked at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office due to the distribution of materials from an organization recognized as undesirable in Russia.
The “Team 29” stressed that they do not have any materials of this organization on the site: “We do not interact with this organization and do not cooperate, fulfilling the requirements of the current legislation. We may not like the legislation, but we comply with it.”
The decision of the Prosecutor General's Office in “Komanda” was regarded as pressure on human rights institutions and promised to appeal the blocking.
Team 29 attorneys and lawyers specialize in matters related to state secrets and security. In particular, they are defending a journalist accused of treason, an adviser to the head of Roscosmos Ivan Safronov, and Karina Turcan, a former top manager of Inter RAO, who was convicted of espionage. They also represent foreign agents recognized in the Russian Federation, banned and liquidated as extremist organizations founded by opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
