By the end of 2021, the frigate Admiral Gorshkov will perform at least one test launch of the Zircon hypersonic cruise missile. This was reported to RIA Novosti by a source in the military-industrial complex.
“Until the end of this year, at least one more firing of the Zircon rocket should be performed as part of the tests – from the head frigate of Project 22350 Admiral Gorshkov,” the agency's source said. During this launch, the frigate can conduct the first salvo firing of hypersonic missiles, he added.
Admiral Gorshkov has already launched Zircon four times – in December, November and October 2020, as well as in July this year. In addition, on October 4, the Russian navy launched its first hypersonic missile from the Severodvinsk nuclear submarine.
In June 2021, President Vladimir Putin announced that the Sarmat intercontinental missile, the Zircon hypersonic missile and the S-500 air defense system would soon be on alert in Russia.
