Twice Hero of the Soviet Union, cosmonaut Vladimir Soloviev has been appointed general designer of the Energia rocket and space corporation, a source in the rocket and space industry told RIA Novosti. This enterprise is part of Roskosmos and produces the Soyuz and Progress spacecraft.
The interlocutor of the agency said that the order on the appointment of Mr. Solovyov had been signed back in May. He replaced Evgeny Mikrin, who died of coronavirus in 2020. Previously, Mr. Soloviev held the position of First Deputy General Designer for Flight Operation, Testing of Rocket and Space Complexes and Systems.
Vladimir Soloviev has been in space twice, he spent a total of almost 362 days there. He went into space eight times and, for the first time in the world, made an interorbital flight from one station to another – from the Mir station to the Salyut-7 and vice versa.
