The head of the refractories group, Stefan Borgas, is currently optimizing the global network of locations.
The listed Austrian-Brazilian refractories group RHI Magnesita is currently “optimizing” its global network of locations and has now sold two companies to the German private equity company Callista, as the company announced on Wednesday evening. No information was given on the purchase price.
New owner
Specifically, the Norwegian RHI Normag AS, based in Porsgrunn, and the Irish Premier Periclase, based in Drogheda, will be transferred to the new owner on February 1st. The management of the two RHI units will continue to be responsible for day-to-day business, it said. Callista employees, in turn, will support the newly acquired companies in “essential organizational and strategic projects,” announced the parent company.
The Callista group of companies is based in Munich and, according to the company's website, specializes in the acquisition of “loss-making group subsidiaries, group activities and business units in special situations”. The success of the company is based on the subsequent restructuring.
Strategic focus
According to the information, RHI Magnesita employs around 13,000 people at 35 main production sites and more than 70 sales offices. The group wants to focus strategically on those countries and regions that benefit from “more dynamic economic growth prospects”.
In Austria, RHI Magnesita had 1,800 employees in mid-2020 – after the plant in Trieben (Styria) was closed. In this country, the raw materials group operates four plants – two in Styria (Veitsch, Breitenau), one in Carinthia (Radenthein) and one in Tyrol (Hochfilzen). In addition, there is the research cluster in Leoben, which has existed for 120 years, and the company headquarters in Vienna.
