Revival of “Meteor”: hydrofoil launched in Nizhny Novgorod
The Meteor was launched in Nizhny Novgorod. A modern hydrofoil vessel can accelerate to 75 kilometers per hour. MIR 24 correspondent Igor Mosunov spoke about the modified version of the legendary model.
Launch of the legendary hydrofoil. Meteor was released for the first time since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Then the enterprise of the Alekseev design bureau was recognized as unprofitable. The production was revived only a few years ago. It is based on the same world-famous technology. But the version, taking into account the time, has been modified.
“The engines are very quiet and environmentally friendly. The most important thing is that we have implemented this for the first time in this steamer. If on warships began to appear such a concept as “an integrated combat control system”, then on passenger ships we call “an integrated control system with elements of artificial intelligence”, – said the Chairman of the Board of Directors – General Designer of the Central Design Bureau for SPK im. R.E. Alekseeva Georgy Antsev.

“Meteor 120R” accelerates to 75 kilometers per hour. This is a modern passenger ship with a bar-restaurant and climate control. 36 meters long and about 10 meters wide. Designed for 120 passengers. Covers a distance of up to 600 kilometers. The maximum flight duration is eight hours.
In the 1950s, hydrofoils became a new word in shipbuilding. The simple design of Rostislav Alekseev made it possible to significantly increase the speed of the ships. As a result, the Nizhny Novgorod design bureau provided not only the country of councils with a variety of models, but also worked for export.
The new Meteor will be operated in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug. Another one on the way. The region also purchased several Valdai 45R vessels.
“A distinctive feature of our region is that it is very watery. These are hundreds of thousands of water bodies. And we have settlements, and of course the people who live in them, which in the season can only be reached in this way. In this respect, for health reasons, we maintain the river fleet. And we enlist today's Meteor in the service of Yugar residents, ”said Natalya Komarova, Governor of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug.
About 400 Meteors cruised along the waters of the Soviet Union. The bureau's production plans are more modest today – there are not about 150 ships for Russia.
