The cost of components for the iPhone 12 Pro is just over $ 400. Reported by the Nikkei edition.
Experts have studied all the components of Apple's flagship smartphone and found that the real cost of the iPhone 12 Pro without additional markups is $ 406. Suppliers from South Korea played a large role in the production of the smartphone – the cost of components of Asian partners accounted for 26.8 percent of the total share. Reporters noticed that this share is higher than in the iPhone 11.
From the disclosed data, it follows that the most expensive component of the new iPhone is the OLED display, the screens are supplied by the South Korean companies Samsung Display and LG Display. Compared to the iPhone 11, which was equipped with an IPS screen, the share of South Korean parts increased by 9.1 percentage points, while the share of American parts, on the contrary, decreased by 3.9 points. It is noted that suppliers from South Korea, in particular Samsung, dominate the OLED display market.
The journalists also appreciated the contribution of Japanese IT companies to the creation of Apple smartphones. It clarifies that Sony is a key supplier for the CMOS sensors used in the iPhone. Components cost between $ 5.40 and $ 7.40 per piece.
In conclusion, the authors stated that Apple still continues to assemble most of the smartphones in factories in China. The report says the company needs to find other manufacturing sites to reduce dependence on suppliers in one country.
Priced by journalists at $ 406, the iPhone 12 Pro is available for purchase for at least $ 999. The cost of a smartphone in Russia starts at 99,990 rubles. The cheapest Apple device of the current generation is the iPhone 12 mini, which is priced at least 69,990 rubles.
