Scientists conducted computer simulations and saw that life on Earth could appear due to one non-obvious factor – the tilt of the planet's axis of rotation.
We know that organisms on Earth require oxygen. As it turned out, the tilt of the planet's axis of rotation played an important role in the so-called “oxygen revolution”. Scientists figured this out by simulating the conditions of Earth's oceans in the past. They were interested in how different conditions influenced the activity of cyanobacteria that produce oxygen.
Naturally, their life activity is influenced by the length of the day, namely daylight hours, and the movements of the continents. And this is not the only factor – the tilt of the earth's axis has also become significant. It is about 23 degrees, if it were not so, then it would be more difficult for cyanobacteria to live and reproduce. It is due to the tilt of the axis of rotation that there are seasons on Earth, and this also ensures the mixing of ocean water and nutrients dissolved in it.
