US President-elect Donald Trump wants to buy Greenland to expand the country's influence and create a historic legacy.
This was reported by Reuters, citing three anonymous sources familiar with Trump's plans.
One of the sources noted that Trump does not plan to use military force, but is considering diplomatic or economic pressure on Denmark.
“The real legacy is to expand the United States. Literally in 70 years, we have not added a single property to the portfolio. It says a lot about that,” the article says.
The last territories to become part of the United States were Alaska and Hawaii in 1959. Another source said that Trump's foreign policy priorities include the “Buying Greenland.”
The president's former and current associates confirm that his interest in territorial expansion is linked to his desire to leave a “strong legacy.”
Recall that the Pentagon said that it “does not know of any plans” to seize Greenland by force.
