The Kharkiv resident was required to collect and transmit to curators from the Russian Federation up-to-date information in the field of defense and, in particular, information about military facilities in the Kharkiv region : their location, number, personnel, available weapons, security and defense systems, etc.
“After the return of our compatriot to the Kharkiv region, the Russian special services demanded the performance of intelligence tasks due to threats of reprisals against his relatives who remained in the Russian Federation ,” the message says.
The Security Service of Ukraine was able to prevent the transfer of information to the Russian special services that could damage the state security of Ukraine.
Criminal proceedings were initiated against the Kharkiv resident under Part 1 of Art. 111 (Treason in the form of espionage) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The exposed Ukrainian has already been informed of the suspicion . The punishment includes imprisonment for up to 15 years.
The SBU recalled that citizens who did not take any action to carry out enemy intelligence services and voluntarily reported this to law enforcement agencies are exempted from criminal liability for treason.
