Strongest decline in France, Austria also recorded a minus

Retailers in the euro zone suffered from restrictions due to the corona pandemic in November. The turnover in the branch decreased by 6.1 percent compared to the previous month, announced the European statistical office Eurostat. Analysts had expected an average of 3.4 percent in sales. In a year-on-year comparison, sales fell by 2.9 percent.

Revenues from clothing and shoes fell particularly sharply by 17 percent compared to the previous month. Sales at the petrol stations also fell in double digits. Mail order via the Internet alone was able to increase.

Total sales fell the most in France (minus 18 percent compared to October 2020), while in Germany they increased by 1.9 percent. Austria recorded a decline of 9.9 percent compared to the previous month.
