Residents of China were allowed to walk their dogs only on a leash

Dog owners in China are obliged to walk their animals only on a leash from May 1. A special identification tag must be attached to the collar of the animal, it follows from the amendments to the “Law on the Prevention of the Spread of Epizootics”.

“When being with a dog in public places, the owner must, in accordance with the rules, keep an animal with an identification tag on a leash,” reads the provisions of the updated regulatory legal act.

The adopted amendments are designed to prevent possible injuries of people as a result of attacks by dogs, as well as to prevent the spread of epidemics.

Citizens who disregard the new provisions of the law, including those regarding the registration of an animal and its hygiene, face a fine of up to 1,000 yuan (about $ 155). In the event of repeated violations, the amount may increase to 5,000 yuan (approximately $ 770). Blatant cases of violations threaten with the withdrawal and euthanasia of the pet from the owner with payment for procedures at the expense of the owner of the animal.
