Residents of a Russian city explained the creation of a Christian account on TikTok

On the popular TikTok platform, an account “The Brotherhood of Andrew the First-Called” appeared, where young people talk about faith in short videos. In a conversation with the Moscow speaking radio station, the bloggers explained the purpose of creating an account.

The idea to register an account with such content belongs to several residents of Khabarovsk. In short videos, Russians talk about church services and show how to be baptized correctly. They planned to create an account last year, but only recently implemented the idea. Before publication, the videos are approved by representatives of the diocese.

“Through our videos on TikTok, we want to tell people about faith in simple terms. We show that believers are not some aliens from Mars, but ordinary people who walk the same streets as everyone else, study in different specialties and work in ordinary jobs, ”the account creators explained.

In March 2021, Vladimir Legoyda, head of the Synodal Department of the Moscow Patriarchate for Relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and society and the media, explained why Orthodox priests began to appear on TikTok and Clubhouse. He drew attention to the fact that preachers used to go out to city squares, but now they come to television and broadcast live on social networks.
