Research: TikTok is the world's most downloaded app of 2020
TikTok, a short video service, has overtaken Facebook to become the most downloaded app of 2020 for the first time, according to a study by Japan's Nikkei.
WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger also hit the top 5 ratings.
According to experts, the success of the Chinese application is associated, among other things, with the covid pandemic. Russian Telegram ranked seventh in the ranking, before that it was eighth. Experts explain the popularity of Pavel Durov's brainchild by the new policy of American WhatsApp – the application recently began to share information with the social network Facebook.
In the US, the top ten most popular services include Discord, a voice service for gamers, and Google Duo video chat. In China, the lead is held by Douyin, the local variant of TikTok. Among the Japanese, the first line is occupied by the messenger Line.
Earlier it was reported that by 2022 Russia plans to transfer all civil servants and employees of budgetary organizations to Russian messengers and other IT services. This is stated in the action plan of the state program “Creation of additional conditions for the development of the information technology industry.”
