Republicans recognize Trump's need

by alex

The US Republican Party has acknowledged that it needs Donald Trump to keep voters. This is reported by the Politico edition.

Despite the condemnation of the storming of the Capitol on January 6, the party admits that with the departure of Trump, a significant proportion of financial donations will be lost. This money is needed to prepare for the midterm elections, in which the Republicans expect to return the majority in both houses of the US Congress.

Key members of the GOP are reportedly trying to re-establish relations with the former head of the White House, while maintaining a certain distance. “There is nothing shocking about taking the path of least resistance. If you want to have a future in politics, then you will not get any benefit from the war [with Trump], ”the strategist of the Republican Party told the publication.

On January 6, Trump protesters stormed the Capitol Building and surrounded the Senate Hall. The Senate and the House of Representatives interrupted a meeting at which it was planned to approve the results of the last elections. During the protests, the police detained almost 70 rioters, five people were killed. On January 14, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump over the riots in Washington.

Earlier it was reported that tens of thousands of Americans withdrew from the ranks of the US Republican Party after the riots in Washington. Only those states whose authorities report refusal of voters to register – Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maryland, Florida and a few others – have 30,000 fewer registered Republican supporters. This could be the tip of the iceberg and indicate a disappointing outlook for the Republican Party.
