Republican Senator Demands Trump to Start Transferring Power to Biden

by alex

Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski, representing Alaska, demanded that US President Donald Trump begin a transitional period for the transfer of power to Joe Biden, who announced his victory in the presidential election. It is reported by The Hill.

Murkowski accused Trump's allies of launching a “pressure campaign” on lawmakers in a number of states to stop the certification of voting results.

On her Twitter page, she called these actions incompatible with the American democratic process and recalled that Trump's claims and his lawsuits to review the voting results were found by several courts to be “unfounded.” “It's time to start a full and formal transition process,” concluded Murkowski.

Lisa Murkowski is one of the few Republicans to recognize Biden's victory in the 2020 elections. The vast majority of Republican senators and members of Congress do not acknowledge Trump's defeat or avoid expressing their position, the newspaper notes.

Earlier, Trump wrote on Twitter that he found a way to defeat Biden in the presidential election. He noted that he had enough information about irregularities during the vote to change his results in at least four states. The President stressed that in this way he will receive the required number of electoral votes.

On November 3, 2020, the next presidential elections were held in the United States. The counting of votes and the proceedings on this issue are still ongoing. According to the media, the candidate from the United States Democratic Party, Joe Biden, received the necessary number of electoral votes to win, thus beating Trump. He has already declared himself President-elect of the United States. Trump, in turn, said that Biden was quick to call himself the country's new leader.
