The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) will hand over the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov to the Russian Navy in 2023. This was announced to RIA Novosti by the head of the corporation, Alexei Rakhmanov. Before that, on the aircraft carrier, he said, it will be necessary to replace all the turbines.

The head of the USC called this situation unplanned – when concluding a contract for the repair and modernization of the ship, it was assumed that only one gas turbine unit was subject to repair, but later the situation changed.

“It turned out that all four units needed repair, and this is a total of 10-11 months of work,” Rakhmanov added. He stressed that the Russian Navy will receive the ship in 2023, if no other defects are found.

The aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, upon returning from a cruise to the Mediterranean Sea, where it struck at militant targets in Syria, has been in Severomorsk since 2018 for scheduled repairs by USC. Initially, the reconstruction of the cruiser was estimated at 20 billion rubles. How much will now build the repair of the aircraft carrier is unknown.

In December 2019, a fire broke out at the “Admiral Kuznetsov”, as a result of which two people died, another 14 people were injured.

In August 2020, Rakhmanov said that it would take up to 350 million rubles to restore the ship. Then he said that they plan to transfer the ship to the Russian Navy in 2022.
