The girl allegedly distributed caricatures of the holy prophets on the Web and mocked them.
A court in Pakistan has sentenced a girl to death for alleged cybercrime and blasphemous messages she sent via WhatsApp and Facebook.
The Guardian writes about this.
It is reported that in 2019, 26-year-old Anika Atik met a young man in a mobile game. Then the couple began to correspond via WhatsApp messenger.
But after that, the guy accused the girl of allegedly sending him blasphemous cartoons of the holy prophets, mocking them and spreading it on her Facebook.
As a result, the girl was accused of “knowingly and intentionally desecrating the holy righteous and insulting the religious beliefs of Muslims.”
At the same time, Atik herself stated that she is a Muslim believer and denied all the accusations. In addition, during the trial, the girl said that, in her opinion, the prosecutor deliberately dragged her into a religious discussion in order to gather evidence against her and “take revenge” for the fact that she refused to be friends with him.
However, the court found 26-year-old Atik guilty and sentenced her to 20 years in prison and hanging.
It should be noted that Pakistan is an Islamic State with some of the strictest blasphemy laws in the world. Death sentences are regularly imposed in the country. Although there are no actual executions or hangings, convicts spend their entire lives in prison.
Recall that the youngest person accused of blasphemy in Pakistan was an 8-year-old boy from a Hindu family. Now the boy’s whole family is hiding.
