Since the beginning of the war, more than 3 million Ukrainians. In particular, since February 24, over 1.8 million Ukrainians have crossed the border with Poland, about 500 thousand with Romania, almost 350 thousand with Moldova, about 300 thousand with Hungary, almost 221 thousand with Slovakia.
On the territory of a foreign state, our people are faced with a number of issues that need to be addressed, in particular:
- obtaining asylum;
- registration of refugee status;
- providing housing, food, clothing, medicines and the like;
- issuing visas to other countries of the world;
- crossing the border to travel to other countries;< /li>
- removing state registration numbers from vehicles;
- employment;
- receiving medical care;
- placement of children in educational institutions.
In order to help in solving these and other problems, the local authorities of the EU member states have created special hot lines and humanitarian centers . Detailed information on this matter is available in the clarifications of diplomatic institutions of Ukraine on the online mapand official Facebook pages.
What is temporary protection< /strong>
In addition to the well-known refugee status another tool is relevant — temporary protection.
Temporary protection does not mean refugee status. Although persons who have been granted temporary protection in the EU may at any time apply for refugee status.
The duration of temporary protection — one year. This period can be automatically extended for the next year depending on the situation in Ukraine.
Rights of persons enjoying temporary protection:
- residence permit for the period of temporary protection;
- access to work (there is no requirement to wait 6 months as opposed to obtaining refugee status);

- housing (settlement in the center or provision of means of living);
- access to social security;
- access to health care;

To use status of temporary protection, you need to apply for a residence permit to the relevant authorities of the country. There, displaced Ukrainians should be given a document that explains their status and rights in a language they can understand.
Please note that refugee status and status of a person under temporary protection differ significantly (in terms of making a decision on granting status, freedom to choose a place of residence, opportunities for movement, amount of assistance, etc.).
