The advantage of supporters of European integration in Moldova turned out to be minimal.

Moldova voted for joining the EU during the referendum, as evidenced by the results published on Monday, October 21, by the country's Central Election Commission.

According to the results of processing 99.5% of the protocols, 50.42% of voters in Moldova supported joining the EU, while 49.58% voted against European integration.

The country's President Maia Sandu gave a comment regarding the results of the referendum. According to her, the pro-European campaign won in Moldova despite the “unfair fight”:

“We have clear evidence that these criminal groups aimed to buy 300,000 votes.”

Recall that turnout in the presidential elections in Moldova on October 20 exceeded 51.4%, or more than 1 million 560 thousand votes. Maia Sandu defeated pro-Russian candidate Alexandru Stoianoglo in the first round.

According to the results of the counting almost 100% of the protocols, Maia Sandu received 41.9% of the votes, and Stoianoglo – 26.3%. The second round of voting to elect the president is ahead.

Earlier it became known that criminal groups with the support of the Russian Federation were pursuing the goal of disrupting the presidential elections in Moldova , in particular, they tried to seize government buildings.
