The Ministry of Health of Russia presented updated recommendations for the treatment of pregnant women with COVID-19
An updated version of the guidelines for providing medical care to pregnant women, women in labor and newborns infected with coronavirus is presented. This was reported on the website of the Russian Ministry of Health on Wednesday, December 29.
The new version includes several additions. In particular, for severe disease, oxygen therapy is recommended to maintain oxygen saturation at 95 percent or higher during pregnancy to maintain oxygen delivery to the fetus, the document says.
In addition, updates appeared in the chapter “Pathogenetic treatment of pregnant women, women in labor and postpartum women with COVID-19” in the part concerning the use of drugs.
New recommendations were developed by leading Russian experts in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, neonatology, infectious diseases, anesthesiology, resuscitation, pulmonology and microbiology.
Earlier, the Ministry of Health of Russia called the omicron strain the most infectious variant of COVID-19.
According to the ministry, the omicron strain, like the delta variant of the virus, contains mutations in its genome that increase its infectivity and reduce the recognition of antibodies formed after illness or vaccination.
