Rebels in Syria have freed prisoners from one of the country's largest prisons

Loud sounds of gunfire were heard in central Damascus.

Syrian rebels said they were celebrating the news of the liberation prisoners.

Reuters reports this.

They welcome “the removal of their chains and the end of an era of injustice at Sedna prison.”

Sedna is a large military prison on the outskirts of Damascus where the Syrian government held thousands of people.

Heavy gunfire was also heard in central Damascus.

In rural areas southwest of the capital, local youth and former rebels took advantage of the loss of power to take to the streets in acts of defiance against the family's authoritarian rule Assad.

Recall that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered Israeli forces to seize areas of Syria in the Golan Heights buffer zone.
