On Saturday, October 1, in the capital of Burkina Faso, rebels supporting the self-proclaimed leader, Army Captain Ibrahim Traore, set fire to the territory French embassy. They accuse France of supporting ousted President Paul-Henri Damiba in a coup d'état.
According to Reuters, representatives of the military junta appeared on state television and said that Damiba fled to the base of the French army, from where he organized a counterattack against the rebels .
The French Foreign Ministry released a statement saying the base never hosted Damiba, who also seized power in a coup d'état on January 24 this year.
However, hundreds of people, Traore's supporters gathered in front of the French embassy on Saturday to protest. Anti-French demonstrators gathered and threw stones at the French Cultural Center in the southern town of Bobo Dioulasso.
By evening, a fire broke out in the embassy, several shots were heard.
