Real Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao in the final to win the Spanish Super Cup. The meeting was held in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium and ended with a 2:0 victory for the Creamy.
Wards Carlo Ancelotti opened the scoring in the 38th minute after an accurate strike by midfielder Luka Modric after a pass from the Brazilian Rodrigo.
In the second half, Yeray Alvarez played with his hand in his penalty area and the referee of the match, after watching the video replay, pointed to the penalty mark. The penalty was successfully converted by Karim Benzema , although Unai Simon was close to save the shot.
At the end of the meeting, the galaxies remained in the minority after the removal of Eder Militao for handball. And at the gate of Thibaut Courtois a penalty was appointed, but Raul Garcia could not convert it.
