In order to get fit for the future, Rapid is building a training center near the Happel oval. The construction plan holds, in January all teams will move in.
In terms of sport, Rapid still has a lot of room for improvement, after ten laps they are eighth, 19 points behind leaders Salzburg. In terms of infrastructure, however, the Hütteldorfer are in the fast lane.
The new Rapid Training Center in Vienna's Prater is taking shape. The first construction phase was completed at the beginning of October. The cabins of the combat team, coaching offices and the physio area are ready. A playing field including floodlights and turf heating was built a few weeks ago.
Work on the second construction phase has now started. “This includes, among other things, the gym, the academy teams' cabins, rooms for catering and recreation for the players, and modern offices,” reports Stefan Ebner, who is responsible for the project.
“We will be able to use the functional building to its full extent as early as the beginning of January,” says business manager Christoph Peschek. Sports director Zoran Barisic: “As soon as all teams are accommodated at the same location, this also optimizes the cooperation between professionals, Rapid II and the academy. A considerable advantage for sporting development.” As a reminder, people are currently commuting between the training grounds of the Allianz Stadium and the Happel oval.
In the long term, one hopes that the record champions will narrow the gap between the “cops”. The foundation stone has been laid. Action must now follow.
