Protest action in front of the Bundesliga headquarters
The video referee causes displeasure in Austria! Rapid fans have now started a protest in front of the Bundesliga headquarters.
The VAR was actually supposed to ensure more fairness in the field, but it often causes discussions. A look back at reactions in the past few rounds: Klagenfurt coach Peter Pacult raged on “Sky”: “I wonder if we don't make football so complicated and more stupid.” LASK trainer Dominik Thalhammer smugly asked after his team was denied a penalty in round two against Rapid: “When will the VAR be introduced in Austria?” Wolfsberg coach Robin Dutt is also “at a loss”, Rapids Didi Kühbauer sees “still a lot of work” for the referees.
The Rapid fans have now started a protest against the video referee. A poster of the green and white supporters hangs in front of the Bundesliga headquarters in the 13th district on Monday morning. Not very fine inscription: “No more VARoaschung.” Old computer monitors and televisions were stacked next to them. The “Legal Aid Rapid” tweeted a photo of the action and wrote: “The photo evidence on Monday morning: teleworking in the Bundesliga.”
Referee boss Robert Sedlacek last said on “Today” question: “I can understand the anger sometimes, in a few situations the expectations were probably different. But the VAR is unfortunately not a surprise bag. In many situations there is no black or White, but also gray areas that remain. Some of the subtleties will still work out. The burden on the referees has now also changed. “
Austria's Manfred Schmid knows the problem from Germany. “It wasn't very clear in the first year either. You have to give the referees time.” Sedlacek saw it this way even before the season started: “Having a new computer is one thing, using it is another.”
