Is the Formula 1 weekend in Sochi sinking into the chaos of the weather? In any case, the motorsport “premier class” has already adapted the program.
The first two free practice sessions on Friday were held at 18 degrees Celsius and slightly cloudy. For the rest of the weekend, however, the weather forecasts are more than bleak.
Torrential rains are announced for Saturday. It should also rain on the Russian Black Sea coast on Sunday, but not as badly. But behind the third free practice (11 a.m.) and qualifying at 2 p.m. there are big question marks.
That is why the motorsport “premier class” changed the schedule at short notice on Friday. Because the problem besides the bad forecast are the other races that will be held as part of the Formula 1 weekend.
The FIA moved the Formula 3 race scheduled for Saturday morning to Friday afternoon. This is intended on the one hand to ensure that the race is carried out and on the other to create an additional window for Formula 1. It is quite possible that the start times of training and qualifying could be adapted at short notice.
However, the organizers are still sticking to the scheduled start times for training and qualifying. Should it actually rain heavily, qualification training will be postponed to Sunday morning.
