According to ÖBB boss Andreas Matthä, more investments than ever will be made in Burgenland, Vienna and Lower Austria in 2021.

Where the 700 million go, the top projects:

The plans for the modernization and expansion of the Hütteldorf – Meidling connection line (start of construction 2023) and the Meidling – Floridsdorf S-Bahn line (start 2022) are continuing. The same applies to the expansion of the southern runway to four tracks from Meidling to Mödling (start 2027). The renovations of the stations Matzleinsdorfer Platz, Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof, Grillgasse and Strebersdorf are starting.

The full expansion of the Vienna – Bratislava route is planned for spring. At the end of 2021, the double-track expansion of the Pottendorfer line will start in the Vienna section. The expansion of the northern line between Vienna and Bernhardsthal is on track, starting probably in 2022. Numerous stations are being renewed. Schwechat receives 170 new P & R spaces, Langenzersdorf 52 bike & ride spaces, Hollabrunn a new parking deck with space for around 700 cars.

Important preparatory work starts here, for example for the electrification of the Mattersburger Bahn (Wr. Neustadt – Loipersbach) and the Ostbahn (Jennersdorf – Graz).
