The Verkhovna Rada has ratified an agreement between the Governments of Ukraine and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on a loan for the Naval Forces of Ukraine in the amount of 1.7 billion pounds.
The money is planned to be used for the purchase and maintenance of two mine-fighting ships, the joint production of eight missile ships and a frigate.
It is also planned to supply and modernize weapons for existing ships and consulting and technical support for the construction of naval infrastructure.
As explained by Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Polishchuk during a report in the Verkhovna Rada, this agreement is aimed at re-equipping the Armed Forces with new and modernized weapons that will effectively fulfill the tasks facing the Navy to protect national interests in the waters of the Black and Azov Seas.
In January, a batch of anti-tank weapons has already arrived in Ukraine from the UK.
It was delivered by two Royal Air Force military transport aircraft. London handed over to the armed forces the NLAW anti-tank portable complex, which is considered the best in the world in its class.
Later, British Defense Minister Ben Wallace announced his readiness to allocate more weapons to Ukraine.
