The government of Viktor Orban has repeatedly demonstrated its commitment to Moscow.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary confirmed that Budapest blocked Ukraine’s entry into the EU and NATO because of the issues of Transcarpathian Hungarians.
This was stated by the Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Levent Madyar.
He admitted that because of the issues of the Transcarpathian Hungarians, Budapest “blocked Ukraine’s entry into the EU and NATO and its rapprochement with them,” and without resolving his concerns, “nothing will change.”
According to him, in addition to the Hungarians in Transcarpathia, the parties discussed the situation with Ukrainian refugees in Hungary. In particular, they discussed the education of Ukrainian children in Hungarian schools and the financing of a scholarship program for Ukrainian students.
Note that in December 2023, when EU countries must decide whether to allow Ukraine start accession negotiations, Hungary will be a “tough nut to crack” for Kiev. The government of Viktor Orbán, which has repeatedly shown its affection for Moscow, will appeal to discussions over the treatment of ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine.
On the eve of Hungary threatens to stop NATO's wartime expansion. The reason was a 10-minute Swedish video that she didn't like.
