Escalation in Marseille
Fan violence in France's stadiums never ends. Again Olympique Marseille was right in the middle.
In the Europa League, the tatters flew between Marseille and Galatasaray Istanbul. Because the fan blocks were throwing Bengalos at each other, the game even had to be interrupted.
Police and security forces tried to settle the situation, but more and more flares flew back and forth between the sectors.
According to French media reports, around 2,500 Turkish fans are said to have started to ignite. The supporters of Marseille attracted attention for the third week in a row with scandals, most recently there were two storms in the French league.
Only when gala coach Fatih Terim and Olympique captain Dimitri Payet calmed their fans down, the situation slowly cleared up.
It wasn't the only pyro incident in the Europa League, Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp was hit by a firecracker in Antwerp.
