Russian dictator Vladimir Putin continues to express the worldview that Russia must impose its will without compromise or face existential consequences.
Analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) came to this conclusion, analyzing Putin’s interview with the Rossiya TV channel 1.
The Russian president said that in the 2000s he was naive, thinking that the West had no grounds for confrontation with the Russian Federation. He also accused the West of continuing to fight Russia as it did the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

And the Russian President also accused some Western leaders of allegedly seeking to completely destroy Russia and divide it into small federations (the so-called balkanization process).
ISW analysts point out that during his two decades in power, Putin has developed a hard-line worldview of dissatisfaction with the West and Russia's strength.
The Russian dictator is increasingly saying that the West has been allegedly trying for decades to reduce Russian power and inflict a final strategic defeat on the Russian Federation. Therefore, Putin wants the West to completely capitulate to Russia’s grandiose strategic goals.
This worldview of Putin’s geopolitics suggests that he puts power above all else and views any compromise as a defeat.
Putin also said in an interview that as a child he did not apologize to his mother, despite her numerous requests to do so, and held out until she stopped punishing him. ISW believes that in this way the Russian president indirectly indicates that he will force those who oppose him to capitulate.
