Putin's Big Weakness: How Actions in Kursk Oblast Affect Attitudes Towards Him in the US Victoria Grabovskaya

The raid in the Kursk region has been going on for the sixth day, but the Russian army has still not managed to stabilize the situation in the region. Moreover, Ukrainian flags are being raised in new settlements of the Kursk region. All this demonstrates the vulnerability of Vladimir Putin's regime.

US politician Yuri Rashkin and executive director of the Renew Democracy Initiative Uriel Epstein told Channel about this. They noted how attitudes toward Ukraine and Russia have changed in US politics.

There has been a change in narrative

Previously, certain forces in the West, such as businessmen Elon Musk and David Sachs, as well as journalist Tucker Carlson, allowed themselves to criticize Ukraine's actions. However, after the breakthrough in the Kursk region, according to Epstein, they have all gone silent now.

The breakthrough in the Kursk region has completely changed the narrative, he noted.

At the same time, from the West's point of view, the raid on the Kursk region looks like Putin's great weakness and a slap in the face to him.

“Russia is falling apart, it is not capable of defending itself. However, I do not want these Russian regions to go to Ukraine – it needs the 1991 borders. The question is how to get Russia to the negotiating table, and so that Ukraine has an advantageous position. This issue is now being resolved in the Kursk region,” Rashkin emphasized.

Trump will draw conclusions

At the same time, interesting events are taking place in the United States. Democratic forces have gone on the counterattack. Donald Trump has lost the feeling that he is guaranteed victory, and this is causing him to panic.

All this is connected with the situation in the Kursk region. If Putin thinks he has another 4 or 8 years of rule with Trump, that's one scenario for him. And if he knows Trump is going to lose the election, that will influence the Kremlin regime's decision now, when the Russians are repelling the attack on the Kursk region, the politician noted.

Also, Russia's reaction to these events, according to Uriel Epstein, could change the logic of Trump, who respects strength. However, this situation has shown Putin's weakness, and dictators only have support when people consider them strong.

Trump will probably conclude that he will not be able to work with Putin in the future. These events are also changing the narrative among the far right in the world, which previously collaborated with the head of the Kremlin, Epstein said.

In addition, changes within Russia, he added, can only occur when it suffers a defeat on the battlefield.
