Putin won't defend Iran because he's counting on Trump — political scientist

Russian dictator Putin has no plans to defend Iran in the event of a conflict, as he is counting on an agreement with the United States if Donald Trump returns to power.

If Iran is lost, Vladimir Putin would suffer a serious blow to his position in the Middle East, but the Russian dictator has no intention of defending his ally.

Political scientist Vladimir Fesenko expressed this opinion on air at Espresso .

Of course, for Putin, the loss of Iran will weaken his position in the Middle East. But Putin does not intend to defend Iran, does not intend to fight for Iran. And I think that right now, under Trump, he does not fear for his safety. On the contrary, I think that he is confident that under Trump there will be no war between the US and Russia. They will negotiate among themselves,” the political scientist said.

According to him, Putin had already drawn the appropriate conclusions for himself long ago.

He is doing everything to continue negotiating with Trump. And Iran – well, what can you do, Iran can be sacrificed, although at this point, I think, another scenario is more likely. After, perhaps, for some time, Israel attacks Iran, Putin will act as a mediator, as he promised Trump, he will act as a mediator,” Fesenko noted.

He added that Putin would like to keep Iran as a sufficiently powerful ally, but Tehran may already change its attitude towards Russia, because it has proven to be an unreliable partner.

“And Putin won't be able to ensure the kind of peace that the US would like either. Therefore, one way or another, a war between Israel and Iran will not work in Putin's favor. However, I think that he, I don't know whether he was asleep or awake, was definitely informed about these American strikes, but he has not yet transmitted this to himself,” the political scientist noted.

Fesenko also drew parallels with the past.

“Well, Gaddafi – yes, Saddam Hussein – yes, that's when he felt it very acutely, emotionally. And various sources confirm that he tried on their fate one way or another. So he has it in his mind, but in the current situation with Iran, I think he's thinking about something else – about how to preserve good relations with Trump on the one hand, and at least preserve the remnants of the current Iranian regime on the other,” the expert concluded.

Earlier, it was reported that US Vice President J.D. Vance said that the United States is not in a state of war with Iran, despite airstrikes on its nuclear infrastructure.

We previously reported that the Kremlin reacted hysterically to the night attack. on Iranian nuclear facilities.
