Russian President Vladimir Putin wished his American counterpart Joe Biden a Happy New Year. This was announced on Thursday, December 30, on the Kremlin's official website.

In his congratulations, the Russian leader noted that Moscow and Washington should establish constructive interaction between themselves, since they bear a special responsibility for stability in the world. He also stressed that both countries need to unite in the fight against the multiple threats facing humanity.

“I am convinced that in development of our agreements reached during the June summit in Geneva and subsequent contacts, we can move forward and establish an effective Russian-American dialogue based on mutual respect and consideration of each other’s national interests,” Putin concluded.

Earlier it became known that on December 30 at 23:30 Moscow time, the presidents of Russia and the United States will hold a telephone conversation. It is specified that politicians will touch upon a whole range of topics, including the upcoming negotiations, as well as a meeting at the OSCE site and a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council. In addition, Putin and Biden may consider the progress of negotiations with Iran on a nuclear deal.

The last time Putin and Biden spoke via video link was on December 7. The dialogue between the leaders of the two countries lasted two hours and took place via a special video link. They walked behind closed doors without the journalists' access to the broadcast. During the talks, Vladimir Putin told his American counterpart about Moscow's “red lines” – the further advance of NATO to the east and the deployment of offensive weapons in Ukraine.
