Russia has completed the construction of a special storage facility for tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.

“Putin will never use nuclear weapons located on the territory of Belarus without the consent of the Belarusian president. You must clearly understand this. Even if we had to defend ourselves or attack someone, we would also consult with Russia on this matter, because it is our ally,” Lukashenko said.

At the same time, he noted that he was ready for such a decision.

“I am completely ready, otherwise what would these weapons be for? But only if at least one foreign soldier… We do not plan to attack anyone,” he said.

What is known about the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus

Russian President Putin said that Russia has transferred the Iskander missile system, capable of carrying nuclear weapons, to the Belarusian army. According to him, the leader of the Belarusian regime, Alexander Lukashenko, has long been raising the issue of deploying Russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. He added that such actions are a kind of response to the UK's decision to transfer tank shells containing depleted uranium to Ukraine.

He added that Russia is not transferring tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus, but will deploy them and train the military.

Former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexei Danilov said that Russia's intention to deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus will lead to internal destabilization of the country and will finally ruin Russia's reputation in the eyes of Belarusian society.

The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) condemned President Putin's statement about the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus.
