Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law introducing a Fan ID for attending sporting events. RIA Novosti reports.

As noted by Dmitry Svishchev, head of the State Duma Committee on Sports, the measure should not negatively affect the occupancy rate of stadiums. He stressed that it will take no more than five minutes to issue a fan passport on the State Service portal.

On December 17, the State Duma adopted a law introducing a fan passport. This caused a sharp protest from the fans, in particular fans of the St. Petersburg Zenit, who called this measure repressive. The management of “Zenith” announced their readiness to conduct a dialogue with fans.

Fan ID was tested during the 2018 World Cup in Russia. To enter the tribune, each fan was required to have a personalized spectator card. In addition, the presence of a Fan ID exempted foreign fans from obtaining a Russian visa.
