Back in April, Vladimir Putin pardoned a brutal killer who killed his own girlfriend. In addition, he went to fight in Ukraine, he calmly grills kebabs with friends in freedom.

The Russians regularly recruit imprisoned criminals into the army in an attempt to avoid direct mobilization. However, they often commit new crimes upon returning from the front.

Killer at the front

In January 2020, Vladislav Kanyus brutally killed his beloved Vera Pekhteleva. The medical examiner determined that a combination of injuries caused death. In total, more than 100 injuries, bruises, hematomas and cut wounds were counted on her body. Most of all, Vladislav made fun of his own girlfriend’s face, neck and head. Before his death, he raped Vera and then strangled her with an iron cord.

According to the court verdict, the killer was sent to prison for 17 years. However, in June, the mother of the deceased Vera was shown a photo in which Vladislav poses in uniform with a machine gun in his hands. He went to fight in Ukraine. From the response of the prosecutor's office it became known that on April 27, 2023, Vladimir Putin pardoned him by personal decree.

The law adopted in the summer allows Russians to release, during periods of mobilization or martial law, persons who have been tried even for such serious crimes. However, Vladislav not only fights – he calmly publishes photos from home, where he barbecues with friends.

Putin does not openly announce mobilization

  • Putin is trying to play into the fiction of elections scheduled for spring 2024. The Russian President will try to avoid open mobilization of the population, because this could cause public discontent.
  • In October, the Main Intelligence Directorate said that everything in the aggressor state was ready for open mobilization. However, the enemy cannot declare it, because this will affect the same elections, as well as the economic state of the country.
  • For now, the Kremlin can decide on a “reduced” mobilization, that is, 100 or 200 thousand people. A large army can be dangerous for the regime, so Putin is more likely to “throw in more firewood” to support the existing forces.
