Russian President-dictator Vladimir Putin ordered Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to stop the counter-offensive The Armed Forces of Ukraine and return the initiative at the front to Russian troops.
This is stated in a new report from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
“An insider source in the Kremlin claimed that Putin allegedly gave the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has a month until early October 2023 to improve the situation on the front line, stop Ukrainian counter-offensives and return the initiative to Russian troops,” the report said.
This may indicate that the Russian military command may , “orders constant counterattacks in the hope of forcing the Ukrainian counteroffensive to reach a climax, even at a high cost to Russian military capabilities.”
Analysts suggest that Shoigu persuaded Putin to remove Mikhail Teplinsky from command of the airborne forces. This will become possible if Shoigu can achieve the goals of the Kremlin head during the counteroffensive.
