The United States, led by Donald Trump, is joining the breakthrough in the isolation of the Russian Federation and Putin.
The meeting between the head of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump provides, first of all, for the lifting of the dictator's diplomatic isolation RF.
The famous journalist Vitaly Portnikov wrote about this in his column on the Espresso website.
He recalled that Putin had already spoken about his readiness to meet with the American president.
“For Putin, this will undoubtedly be a huge diplomatic victory, which will demonstrate the fiasco of the isolation of the Russian Federation by the countries of the civilized world,” Portnikov believes.
The 2022 event hoped that such diplomatic isolation would force Putin to end the war against Ukraine and move on to negotiations on ending the largest conflict in Europe since World War II.
However It immediately became clear that the countries of the Global South, primarily China, India, South Africa and Brazil, which are members of the BRICS union, refused any diplomatic isolation of Russia. Their fruitful political, economic and diplomatic contacts with the Russian leadership continue. And they were not hampered by the continuation of Russia's war against Ukraine.
“It is now obvious that the Russian-American summit will be a serious defeat for the United States and an unconditional victory for Russia, no matter what the outcome of this meeting,” Portnikov wrote.
He noted that serious results should not be expected from such negotiations.
“Putin needs a meeting for the sake of a meeting that, firstly, will demonstrate the fiasco of his isolation, and secondly, will open the way to Moscow for those Western politicians who would like to resume political and economic contacts with the Russian Federation,” he added.
Recall that US President Donald Trump's statements regarding the meeting with Vladimir Putin and “something significant” is causing opinions in the West about the possibility of a “new Yalta”. This was previously stated by former Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States and France Oleg Shamshur.
