< p>The Russian Army did not achieve success as a result of the "big" offensive, and the losses of the Russian army are numerous.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell said that the European Union supports the holding of peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, but not on the terms proposed by the head of the Kremlin. Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to use the opportunity of negotiations in order to take a pause in the war and accumulate strength.
Former KGB and Russian Foreign Intelligence Service officer Sergei Zhirnov said this on Channel 24.
The Kremlin dictator needs a “break”
According to Zhirnov, both Russia and Ukraine need to replenish their military units, moreover, there is a problem with providing soldiers with weapons and ammunition. However, in the Russian army it is several times larger, because it has now chosen offensive tactics.
“Putin is looking for a truce, a respite in order to accumulate strength and resources. Nothing works out for him with the offensive. He understands that even investing money does not bring results. The military is not made quickly, so Russia does not want let go of those who have already been mobilized,” says Zhirnov.
Since the beginning of 2024, approximately 180 thousand Russian soldiers have been killed or injured. Russia has the potential to replace these people, but it is not so easy to do. They all need to be dressed, shod, taught.
The ex-KGB officer adds: statements about the possibility of peace negotiations have been repeatedly heard from both Ukraine and Russia. This may indicate that certain developments in this direction are already being carried out.
