The reason for NATO's eastward expansion was the euphoria of the alliance's victory over the USSR in the Cold War. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking on Tuesday, December 21, at an expanded meeting of the collegium of the Ministry of Defense, reports TASS.
“Sometimes you wonder why they did it all in those conditions? Unclear. I think that from euphoria in connection with the victory in the so-called Cold War or the so-called victory in the Cold War, ”the head of state said. Another reason, he said, was the incorrect assessment of the situation that had developed after the collapse of the USSR on the part of Brussels.
